A St. Matthew and Oak Creek alum is now a district commander for the Milwaukee Police Department, as Urban Milwaukee reports. Diana Rowe, who enrolled in the MPD training program in 1991, has risen up the ranks to become commander of a district on the city's south side. Rowe, 45, told Urban Milwaukee she credited the Oak Creek Police Department for helping fuel her interest in the profession. Read the whole story here.

Oak Creek Bracing For Freeway Closure

Interstate 94 between Rawson Avenue and the Milwaukee-Racine county line will close at 9 p.m. Friday and reopen at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Oak Creek Residents Say Thanks To Police

This week is Police Week and less than a year after the Sikh Temple shooting, a number of community members have showed their support for those that have been wounded or killed in the line of duty.

With this week being Police Week, a number of community members have offered their heartfelt thanks to the men and women in blue. As part of Police Week, law enforcement honors those who were disabled or died in the line of duty. More than 19,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial — and more are added every year. Police Investigating Armed Robbery of 27th St. Restaurant

Police are seeking suspects who robbed KFC, near 27th and College, about 10 p.m. Friday.

Franklin police are investigating an armed robbery of KFC, 6311 S. 27th St. No one was injured in the incident, which was reported about 10 p.m. Friday, according to Patch's media partners at WISN. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The Journal Sentinel reported that officers from Oak Creek and Greenfield and the Oak Creek Police Department's K-9 unit also responded to the scene.

Thefts of baby formula have been occurring, well, as long as baby formula has been sold in stores. But a rash of recent thefts in the Milwaukee area, including Oak Creek, and even across the country, appear to have escalated in terms of the boldness and brazenness – or maybe desperation – of the offenders. The most recent large-scale bust happened in April when police say Ebony Sims, 26, and Johnetta Webb, 23, both from Milwaukee, loaded 69 cans of formula into plastic totes they had grabbed of the shelves at Walmart in Greenfield and waltzed out of the store. A video taken in Oak Creek shows several men trapping a deer and putting a T-shirt on the animal. A suspect has been identified.

The state Department of Natural Resources and Oak Creek Police Department are investigating a video that shows several men putting a T-shirt on a trapped deer in Oak Creek. The video, called "how to put a T-shirt on a feisty deer," has since been removed from YouTube, according to WTMJ-TV, which first reported the story Wednesday and showed some of the video. Officers have identified the perpetrator, according to the police department logbook. No citations have yet been issued. Several Oak Creek residents have seen the deer. It is believed to be healthy and should be left alone, according to the TMJ report. OCPD, Business Collaborate on 'Take Back' Initiative

The Drug Enforcement Agency is holding a national initiative collecting unused medications.

Oak Creek Relief & Wellness, 1900 W. Ryan Road, will host a collection of unwanted, unused and expired medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27. The event, co-sponsored by the Oak Creek Police Department, is part of the Drug Enforcement Agency's national "Take Back" medication collection initiative. The service is free and anonymous.
