If you have to drive in Oak Creek on Saturday, best of luck. With the freeway closing between Rawson Avenue and the Milwaukee-Racine county line at 9 p.m. Friday, local streets will be packed with cars trying to navigate detours until the freeway is reopened at 9 a.m. Sunday. 27th Street, where the state Department of Transportation plans to redirect traffic, will bear the brunt of the closure. But the rest of the members of the Oak Creek Police Department put their lives on the line every day, and we put out a call on Facebook to offer the opportunity for the community to show their support for the men in blue. Here's what you had to say: Sheryl Kropf Cerniglia: Thanks to all the school resource officers past and present.... we couldn't …

But a rash of recent thefts in the Milwaukee area, including Oak Creek, and even across the country, appear to have escalated in terms of the boldness and brazenness – or maybe desperation – of the offenders. The most recent large-scale bust happened in April when police say Ebony Sims, 26, and Johnetta Webb, 23, both from Milwaukee, loaded 69 cans of formula into plastic totes they had grabbed of the shelves at Walmart in Greenfield and waltzed out of the store.
