Absentee Ballots, Voter Registration Available at City Hall

The Oak Creek city clerk's office has everything you need to know about voting in the upcoming election, now less than a month away.

With the presidential campaign in the home stretch, Oak Creek residents can stop by city hall to register to vote or pick up an absentee ballot application. Residents have until Nov. 2 to register in advance of the election at city hall, 8640 S. Howell Ave. (Voters can also register at the polls on Election Day) Residents have until Oct. 17 to register by mail or at the Oak Creek Public Library. Written requests for residents to receive an absentee ballot by mail must be received by the Oak Creek city clerk's office no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. Ballots being returned by mail must be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 6., to be counted. Early "absentee" voting will be held at city hall from Monday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 26 …

La Terraza Has Closed

The owner of the popular Mexican restaurant at Ryan and Howell was told to vacate the building by Sept. 1, according to the city clerk's office.

Popular Mexican restaurant La Terraza, 9454 S. Howell Ave., has closed. The city clerk's office was informed the building has been sold and La Terraza's owner, which leased space, was told to vacate by Sept. 1, Deputy City Clerk Christa Miller said. For-sale signs have been up on the building, at the corner of Howell Avenue and Ryan Road, for some time. La Terraza owner Jose Alvarez told the city he hopes to open in another location, but wasn't sure if it would be in Oak Creek, if it happens at all, Miller said. Alvarez could not be reached. The phone number listed to La Terraza is disconnected, and no one was at the building when Patch stopped by Thursday. La Terraza offered reasonably-priced authentic Mexican food and featured an …

Council Seeks to Fill Aldermanic Vacancy

Void left by Scaffidi's election as mayor will be filled by mid-May.

The city of Oak Creek is now accepting applications for 3rd District residents interested in filling the aldermanic vacancy left with Steve Scaffidi's election as mayor. Residents should submit a letter of interest and, if they so choose, a resume, to the clerk's office at city hall, 8640 S. Howell Ave. Click here for a map of the district. The council set a deadline of noon May 10 for letters to be submitted. Aldermen will then interview candidates and make a selection in a special meeting on May 14. The appointee takes office the next day. Council members opted against adding the position to the Nov. 6 election ballot. The appointee will instead serve out the remainder of Scaffidi's term, which expires in the April 2013 elections. …
