Oak Creek will hold its ninth-annual Pig and Chicken Roast from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Henry Miller Park, 315 E. Groveland Drive. The event features both adults' and kids' meals, children's games and a car show. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Oak Creek City Hall, 8640 S. Howell Ave., and the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for kids.

9/11 remembrance ceremony kicks off day full of community events.
With the Packers not playing and good weather in the forecast, Oak Creek residents have plenty to do in the community on Sunday. First up is the Oak Creek Fire Department's 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 11 outside the fire department headquarters, 7000 S. 6th St. The department will dedicate a new monument as part of a Sept. 11 memorial. From noon to 4 p.m., the Oak Creek Celebrations Commission will host the eighth-annual Pig and Chicken Roast at Henry Miller Park, 315 E. Groveland Drive. A $4 adult ticket includes 1/4 chicken or pork sandwich with potato chips and beans. A $1 kids ticket includes a hot dog, potato chips and snacks. I graduated from OCHS way back in 1980, but I can certainly see how wrong this is. We had great admins. and school board back then. I can't even imagine who you have running the show now. Whoever it is, they aren't helping, but hindering. I feel sorry for the current students, and parents!   more ›
