Sheriff's Squad Car Side-Swiped Near Ryan Road

The sheriff's deputy was taken to the hospital as a precaution, while the other driver was not injured, according to a report.

A Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office squad car was side-swiped Wednesday morning on I-94 near Ryan Road, according to a WISN-TV report. The deputy was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the report. The other driver was not injured. Patch will update this story if more information becomes available.

One Arrested Following Three-Car Crash on Ryan Road

The accident happened Sunday just west of Interstate 94.

Police took a person into custody following a three-car accident Sunday on Ryan Road. The accident happened just west of Interstate 94. The Wisconsin State Patrol took the person arrested to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital for a blood draw. No other information was immediately available.

Woman Hospitalized After Accident on Ryan Road

Vehicle was struck at intersection of 13th Street and Ryan Road Wednesday.

A 39-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after an accident at 13th Street and Ryan Road Wednesday morning. According to an Oak Creek police report, the woman was westbound in the far right lane of Ryan Road about 7:20 a.m. when a vehicle struck her from behind. The 39-year-old complained of neck pain and was transported by ambulance to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital, according to the report. The driver of the striking vehicle, a 59-year-old Oak Creek woman, was cited for inattentive driving.

New Emergency Animal Hospital Eyes April Opening

Oak Creek will be home to Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists' fourth clinic.

A new emergency animal hospital is under construction in the multi-tenant Pick 'n Save building on Ryan Road and could be open by April. Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will serve as a referral center for critical-care cases that cannot be handled by nearby clinics. "A high percentage of the clients have never been to the site before because they are referred to by general practitioners throughout the SE WI area," owners Jacob Odders and Brian Teunissen wrote in a letter to the Oak Creek Department of Community Development. "These pets are critical. They may have been hit by a car, injured in a fight, dying from congestive heart failure, suffering from acute medical conditions etc." …

Big Changes Coming For Portion of Highway 100

Reconstruction of interchange, street set to begin in 2014.

2014 is shaping up to be a big year for a stretch of Ryan Road in Oak Creek.  Though plans aren't finalized, the state Department of Transportation is moving forward with a proposal to reconstruct the Ryan Road interchange, as well as the portion of Ryan (Highway 100) between 27th Street and Howell Avenue.  The Oak Creek Plan Commission last night began discussions about the types of features it wants for the latter. Oak Creek will get an undetermined amount of money, called Community Sensitive Design Funds, that allow cities to enhance transportation projects with features such as landscaping, decorative street lights and way-finding signage.  Commissioners called the funds a "good opportunity" to brighten up the corridor and enhance what…

School-Supply Drive Continues at Cousins Subs

Participants receive certificate for free sub.

Drop off school supplies at the Cousins Subs on Ryan Road, receive a free sub. Cousins is hosting a school-supply drive through Sept. 15 at several of its restaurants, including one in Oak Creek at 2327 W. Ryan Road. Supplies can range from packages of pens, pencils, calculators, glue sticks and markers. Anyone donating one item or more will receive a certificate for a free seven-and-a-half inch sub. Certificates are one per visit. The supplies directly benefit Oak Creek schools.

Police Say Crash Caused By Drunken Driver

Two people were injured in accident on Ryan Road Tuesday night.

A 33-year-old Milwaukee man was allegedly under the influence when he ran a stop sign and hit a vehicle in the 1600 block of E. Ryan Road Tuesday night. According to an Oak Creek police report: The man was westbound on Ryan Road with two children in the car about 7:15 p.m. He struck the vehicle, which was northbound on Nicholson Road, and sent it into the ditch. Both vehicles sustained severe damage. He admitted to police he was drunk and had a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .14.  He was arrested for two counts of causing injury while driving drunk. The severity of the injuries was unknown.  He was also cited for failure to yield right-of-way and operating without insurance.

Dunkin' Donuts To Open In Oak Creek

Store will be in strip mall on Ryan Road.

Dunkin' Donuts is on its way to Oak Creek. The Milwaukee Coffee Brewing Co. has announced the popular doughnut and coffee shop will open at 2345 W. Ryan Road in September. Construction is scheduled to begin in early August. The restaurant, which was previously occupied by Dunn Bros. Coffee Shop, will have seating for 20 and a drive-through window.
