State Rep. Mark Honadel got 60 percent of the vote against Democratic challenger Bill Kurtz in winning re-election to the 21st Assembly District seat.
State Rep. Mark Honadel said he was honored to be elected to another term in the Assembly and looked forward to getting back to work in the state Legislature. Honadel got 60 percent of the vote Tuesday against Democratic challenger Bill Kurtz in the race for the 21st Assembly district, which includes Oak Creek, South Milwaukee and a small portion of Franklin. Kurtz, 60, is a former reporter who has also worked for several colleges. He was in his first run for public office. It will be Honadel's fifth full term in the Assembly after winning a special election in 2003. "As long you enjoy this job and want to get something done, it's an honor. Republican incumbent Mark Honadel, who has held the 21st Assembly District seat since 2003, is facing a challenge from Democrat Bill Kurtz in the Nov. 6 election. Honadel, 56, of South Milwaukee, is an independent businessman, who is also a former professional metal fabricator, welding instructor, and industrial manager. Kurtz, 60, also of South Milwaukee, has worked as a reporter for CNI Newspapers, the Shepherd Express, Catholic Herald and Milwaukee Journal. He has also worked for several colleges. The 21st District seat has new boundaries this year in the wake of redistricting prompted by population shifts in the 2010 census. The Journal Sentinel did not cover individual legislative races this year, a severe handicap for someone like myself, a first-time candidate with limited resources.
