Thousands Stolen in Break-In at Di Carlo

Oak Creek police are investigating a burglary at Di Carlo and Family Vision, which share a building at 8469 S. Howell Ave.

Update 6:55 p.m. March 6: The amount of money stolen from di Carlo was not as much as originally reported—it was actually about $4,800. Read more in an update posted March 6. Oak Creek police are trying to determine who forced their way into Trattoria di Carlo in the overnight hours Thursday and stole between $15,000 and $20,000 in cash. According to a police report, officers arrived just after 9 a.m. Friday and found four cash registers removed, emptied and stacked in the main entry. An office in the restaurant, 8469 S. Howell Ave., was also ransacked. Police say the person or people responsible for the burglary entered by forcing open the main doors. 10 Years Later, di Carlo Still Buzzing

Success came almost instantly for di Carlo, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week and reigns as arguably Oak Creek's most popular restaurant.

On Dec. 4, 2002, Carlo Pedone opened Trattoria di Carlo restaurant in Oak Creek with five seats at the bar and 14 tables. Almost instantly, waits for a table at the authentic Italian restaurant reached an hour to two hours. Couples came to the restaurant for first dates, engagements, wedding parties and baby showers. Families celebrated birthdays; business leaders shared ideas over lunch. Many others ordered food for pick-up, or got meals catered in. Business was so great that di Carlo expanded in 2007 to a bigger dining room and bar area. And ten years to the day after he swung open the doors at 8469 S. They have fabulous food, but don't go there on Valentine's Day. They have a special menu. What makes it special is that all the prices are doubled. We stopped there one Valentines Day with limited time (no children), knew what we wanted to order (and the prices). We left. We prefer the non-special days!!   more ›
