Franklin To Host Meeting On Molybdenum

The DNR will hold another public meeting on molybdenum as it continues reaching out to private well owners in southeastern Wisconsin.

The state Department of Natural Resources will host another public information meeting on molybdenum April 11 in Franklin. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the community room of Franklin City Hall, 9229 W. Loomis Road. It's another in a series of open house-style meetings the DNR is holding to educate residents on molybdenum, how to test for it and how to treat their wells. High levels of molybdenum have been found in many private wells throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The DNR has advised private well owners to have their water tested for molybdenum. Meijer Drops Plans For Franklin Store

Meijer, which is proposed to anchor the Drexel Town Square development project, had also been planned for Highway 100 and Loomis Road in Franklin.

Meijer has informed the city of Franklin it is dropping plans to build a store at Highway 100 and Loomis Road, according to a Franklin NOW report. The site caused a variety of problems for the company, according to the report, including a difficulty getting approvals from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build on or near wetlands. Michigan-based Meijer, which offers grocery and general merchandise, is preparing to enter the Milwaukee market and has been proposed to anchor the Drexel Town Square redevelopment project in Oak Creek at Drexel and Howell avenues. Report: 27th St. Walmart Robbed at Knifepoint

According to a report, a man pulled a knife on an employee at the Franklin Walmart and fled with a cash bag.

Franklin police are searching for a man who pulled a knife on an employee and took a cash bag from the pharmacy in Walmart, 6701 S. 27th St., according to the Franklin NOW. The incident happened just after 10 p.m. Monday, according to the report. A 51-year-old Milwaukee man has been identified as the suspect but has not yet been located. Click here for the full report.

One Killed in Franklin Accident

A vehicle left the roadway and struck a grove of trees Friday morning near Highway 100 and Drexel Avenue, according to a report.

A 60-year-old Franklin man had an apparent medical issue before crashing Friday morning near Highway 100 and Drexel Avenue, according to Patch's media partners at Fox 6. The man's vehicle left the roadway and struck a grove of trees shortly after 10 a.m. He was found unresponsive in the car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to WISN-TV, which first reported the crash.

Franklin Man Pulls Loaded Gun on Wife, Police Say

A man is accused of pointing a gun with eight rounds in the magazine at his wife during an argument in which he also shut off the home's power and refused to turn it back on.

A 28-year-old Franklin man is accused of pointing a loaded gun at his wife when she got upset with him for turning off the power to their home. Russell Gordon Cox was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Saturday with disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: Franklin police officers were called to the couple’s home in the 6800 block of South Parkedge Circle on Friday after the woman reported her husband pulled a gun on her. She said they were arguing and Cox turned off the power to the residence and then refused to turn it back on. He tried to leave, but she blocked him, saying he couldn’t until he turned the power back on…

New 27th St. Grocery Store Sets Ribbon-Cutting

GFS Marketplace opened last weekend and will hold a formal ribbon-cutting Tuesday morning.

GFS Marketplace, the new 27th Street grocery store that officially opened its doors last weekend, has scheduled a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for 10 a.m. Tuesday. The 16,000-square-foot store, 6919 S. 27th St., is something of a mix between a traditional grocery store and a warehouse. GFS is known primarily as a food-service distributor but also has 155 Marketplace stores across the country, including five in Wisconsin. A house in the 8000 block of S. 35th St. caught fire about 6 p.m. Tuesday. The cause is still under investigation.

A home in the 8000 block of S. 35th Street was destroyed by a fire that broke out about 6 p.m. Tuesday. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Patch's media partners at Fox 6. Several neighboring departments, including Oak Creek, responded to the blaze.

Oak Creek Police Arrest Man For 6th OWI

A 54-year-old pulled over for speeding Wednesday now faces a felony drunken driving charge.

A 54-year-old Franklin man is facing his sixth drunken driving charge after he was pulled over for speeding through Oak Creek Wednesday. Bert W. Johnson was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with sixth-offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: On Wednesday, an Oak Creek police officer on patrol spotted Johnson doing 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on W. Puetz Road. When Johnson passed two cars and cut back into his lane to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, the officer pulled him over on 27th Street. Johnson smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. I bet you would feel differently if you or your loved ones were in that oncoming car and he crashed into it. Drink until you pass out if you want - just don't get behind the wheel. Oak Creek Man Allegedly Sells Drugs to Police Informant

A 31-year-old man sold Oxycodone pills to informant at a Franklin store and West Allis trailer park, according to a criminal complaint.

A 31-year-old Oak Creek man is facing charges after he allegedly sold Oxycodone to a police informant on two separate occasions in July. Jonah M. Stasinopoulos was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison and $100,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: On July 2, a police informant working with the St. Francis Police Department informed investigators Stasinopoulos was selling Oxycodone pills for $20 each. The informant set up a deal where Stasinopoulos agreed to sell $100 worth of the pills in the parking of a Franklin business in the 9500 block of S. 27th Street. Oak Creek Woman and Boyfriend Charged in Massive Forged Prescription Ring

Suspects allegedly had people go to pharmacies across the area and try to obtain Oxycodone. They were charged Tuesday along with seven others.

An Oak Creek woman and her boyfriend are facing charges after they allegedly headed up a widespread attempt to pass forged prescriptions for Oxycodone at pharmacies in Oak Creek, Milwaukee, Franklin, West Allis and Greenfield. Barbara C. Flanders, 34, of Oak Creek and Daniel Ellery Sonsthangen, 35, of Milwaukee, were charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Tuesday along with seven other people. Authorities say they obtained a stolen prescription pad and used it to pass fake prescriptions across Milwaukee County.
