ReplyNice job Alderman Ruetz! Maybe this will quiet some of the wing nuts out there who constantly bash our elected officials. He's definitely one of the good guys who thinks about how he can help, versus complain.

ReplyKudos to the Patch and to the Mayor for answering every question that was asked. Pretty rare for any elected official to put himself out there like that. Doubt it will quiet the wingnut conspiracy theory folks or the three stooges from the Citizen Inaction crowd, but the public is beginning to see through their nonsense. They've done more to destroy the reputation of this city than any elected official could ever do.

ReplyGreat point OC Oldtimer...the Mayor made himself available for any questions, for follow up, and some of the audience members disagreed with him. The difference is they did it civillly.
Loco also conveniently forgot to mention that the Mayor talked about the city's financial standing in respect to what creditors/finance experts have said about the city. What they've said is the city is on very stable financial ground, and is under-TIF'd, has 3 times the required reserve fund, and it's bonding projects will not impact the city's excellent credit rating. I would believe a company like Moody's before I would ever believe anything the Citizen Inaction crowd is selling. Most residents understand what is real, and what are hate-filled conspiracy theories.
Kudos to the Mayor for doing something no other Mayor has ever done. That's what good leadership is about. -

ReplyMayor's number is public...he is known for getting back to residents within 24 hours, I know because I call him all the time...I would just call him back, maybe there was a reason for the lack of response?

On the article 'New Day For Oak Creek': City Unveils New Logo, Branding
Be Logical
12:44 pm on Friday, April 19, 2013
ReplyLike a lot of reader postings on the Patch, this article also has a lot of inaccuracies and outright fabrications...The information on the branding initiative is public, it was vetted by the CDA and the Common Council. The dollars spent on it came from hotel tax revenue which funds the CDA, which is responsible for the development and marketing of the city, which ultimately attracts the companies some of the posters want to see in Drexel Town Square. It is NOT an expenditure of property tax dollars. It is the responsibility of the CDA to market the city, and that is what this initiative does.
The cost is also a matter of public record, and you only have to go back to the Common Councili agenda of October 16th, 2012 to see that the cost was $111,000 for two years ($55,500 per year) and that it includes a re-design of the entire website, all logo, re-branding, and other considerations related to marketing.
The last point is that Drexel Town Square is one of the most desirable development sites in southeastern Wisconsin, every major business media entity has already documented that, by talking to businesses who want to locate there, and that point was also driven home at the Wisconsin Retail Conference in Milwaukee last week.
You can believe the conspiracy theorists, or actually do your homework. I recommend that latter..

These so-called facts from LOCO are nothing but nonsense. None of these statements are true, and the writer is attempting to create a story where there is none.
And the real shame is she has the President of Citizen Inaction and the other member of this do-nothing group going around telling the same story. The President of this group should know better, since he is in an elected position and is supposed to represent the will of the people, not a narrow-minded, conspiracy-filled, special interest group. The good news is that most of the Patch readers are beginning to wise up to this charade.
