Was Meijer already approved by the Plan Commission & Common Council? If so, I missed the opportunity to go to these meetings. The flyer I received in the mail yesterday would indicate to me that this has already been approved. Seems to me that the attitude of the City is 'this is what we are doing & if you don't like it, too bad'.

ReplyFor a retailer of this size, the required parking count will be nearly 1000 cars. Not only unsightly, but a significant increase in traffic for the area. My hope was for the proposed Meijer building to be positioned in a manner that shelds some of this parking from casual view - but the image Mark posted just looks like more of the same (a typical big box retailer with a massive sea of parking in front). Personally, tis is not what I expected / envisioned for this development. Turns out the masterplan that was revealed a few months back was nothing more than a 'pretty picture' used to sell the public on moving the Library & City Hall..

$111,000 seems like alot of money to buy "creativity". I would be very interested to know what kind of deliverables and end product the City will receive from this expenditure. I agree with Alderman Michalski that this should have been bid competitively.

ReplySeems to me that the worst stretch of 13th Street is south of Ryan Road.
When will that be done? -

ReplyAt first glance, it looks like very little building area and a comparatively large amount of paking lot area. I would ave expexted more buildings positioned along the streets with parking behind - thereby concealing the large parking fields from casual view..

ReplyLooks like the candiate with the biggest conflict of interest is Tom Michalski - the conflict being his interest vs. the residents of his district. His actions last night
(pushing the City Hall vote through) were inexcusable. It's time for a new alderman in the 6th district. -

ReplyAl Foeckler should not be allowed to cast the tie-breaking vote on the location of City Hall and the Library. He was not elected by the citizens of Oak Creek, and had no involvement with the issue until Mayor Bolenders passing. There's no reason this decision cannot wait until an elected Mayor is in place after the spring elections.
In absence of a referendum (which there should be), let the people vote for the Mayoral candidate that shares their opinion on the matter.

Has the Meijer already been approved by the Oak Creek Plan Commission and Common Council? The flyer I received in the mail yesterday seems to imply this is already approved by the City. Seems to be a case of "this is what we are doing & if you don't like it, too bad." I thought the standard procedure for development in this City is that a public hearing must occur BEFORE something gets approved. That is even more critical on a development of this scale & importance.
