ReplyHow about...watch out for your neighbors? Look out the window? Call the police when you see suspicious behavior? Secure your home so that someone can't get in by kicking in a door? Blaming the US President for local burglaries is like blaming the CEO of FedEx, because one of the company's drivers got a speeding ticket. Dumb.

ReplyPatriot..."liberals only know strong arm tactics" Really? And what was more "strong arm" than passing this law in the dead of night, behind closed doors, without due process? Oh wait, you approve of it so it's ok. Personally I don't see how you can call yourself a "patriot". You believe might is right and due process is strong arming. You may be a patriot but not of this country.

ReplyThis is what is bound to happen as our Congress sends our economy into the toilet. People will get more and more desperate and do more desperate things. Not saying that it's right, just that it is a natural outgrowth of these economic times. Does not mean I'm going to support more people walking around carrying guns.

ReplyWhat do teachers have to do with kids stealing cars and smoking weed? Are you stoned? I'd say thank a parent who was so uninvolved that kids never learned right from wrong, but we also know people, especially teenagers, sometimes just do really stupid s#$%.

ReplyDoesn't matter what you want. I didn't want a Walmart a block from my home in SM but City Hall just steam rolled over local residents. Watch for the payoffs to start.

Reply"Just because Obama was re-elected doesn't mean he is above the Constitution." (????) The Supreme COURT has already ruled that the Affordable Healthcare Act is NOT unconstitutional. Do those we elect to represent us not educate themselves on the facts before they open their mouths? Obama has not put himself above the constitution. These people are putting themselves above the Supreme Court...talk about hubris (look it up, it describes Scott Walker and many of our "representatives")

ReplyNot surprised at all that the OC Patch ccomments on this article so clearly right. Upper middle class white men who see the world through tunnel vision. The bitterness is unsurprising to me, a white, working class, woman in a neighboring community. I voted to retain MY rights and the rights of all people not white, male and entitled. I've worked hard, attended college, paid taxes and invested in property so I know about paying. Do I think everyone using the system should get away with it? No. Would I rather pay for some that shouldn't get it if it means that those that truly need get help when they need it. So you wait a couple of years to buy a new truck, get over it.

On the Blog Post Time to Get Serious about Wisconsin’s OWI Laws

ReplyMy ex-husband had ample opportunity to get education/help for his drinking problem. He won't. He's signed himself out of inpatient treatment, attended AA and accepted monitoring only as long as it was a condition of his release and lies, promises, wheedles whatever it takes to get access to cash to buy alcohol. Some will always be resistant to accepting help or admitting that they have a problem. Some can be helped and I would think that one brush with the law for OWI would be enough to motivate them to get help/stop. Harsher penalties are needed for those who refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. Tears don't help, I know because I shed enough of them. Ultimatums don't work, I know because I issued the. Apparently even punishment doesn't work for some and that's when more is needed. I'm proud of my son and my daughter who have both chosen to limit alcohol, work hard, be caring about others and take responsibility. If their father had anything to do with it it was by setting a very bad example. He deserves to be punished.

Forced her out of the vehicle? What? Someone tried that with me...if I agreed to pick them up and not leave them there all night...and the KEYS to the vehicle would be the first thing I took OUT of the vehicle with me, along with my cell phone to call OCPD to tell them there was a drunk stumbling alongside the road and to come pick him up....
