I fully support both incumbents and feel that they are great assets to the school district. Where Mr McIntosh really missed the boat is saying that there should be more involvement in the community as far as the dicision on how to move forward with the over crowding of the high school. There was a committee and all community members were mor than welcome to attend. We worked well over a tear to give all recommendations to the school board. As far as the statement about how many citizens do not have children in school and how tey feel about the rising property taxes, a good educational system, with quality teachers and a safe environments is an asset for everyone, not just the kids who attend them. I find it sad if the feeling in the community that I live in is only invested in the property tax benefits that directly benefit their own families and not our society as a whole.

I was at the meeting last night because I would prefer to have all the information before making uninformed comments. The reason that they are trying to get these numbers approved is because they are probably higher than what the quotes they will get will come in at. If they do not get these capital expenditures approved it pointless for them to even start shopping around for prices. That is why this will be voted on soon and get specifc quotes on each item.

So happy to see an article about something positive going on in our schools -- something that is not about picking sides and politics -- just a good school doing a good thing for others! Happy to have my child at West and proud of the work they are doing there!

What so many people are missing is that the retake policy has been in place for a while in Oak Creek schools, that is not part of the change that the school board is looking at. If you look at other districts that out-preformed Oak Creek on the recent report cards, those districts do have policies for retakes. While homework is builds responsibility, it is still included in the grades, just not to the extent that it had been in the past, and again is not part of what the school board will be voting on. What the school board is looking at is raising the grading scale, mostly for middle school students. The changes at the high school level are minimal. The representative at the meeting that was from Marquette made it clear that a school sending their profile with is very helpful in evening the playing field for applicants. As far as the changes at the middle school level, it makes sense to keep it the same for students. Kids hav enough transitions between middle and high school and are often shocked that what was an A-, is B+ in high school. If we are giving ou students more options to prove their knowledge on the subject, why not raise the bar on middle school children' grades.

The ignorance of people who do not attend the school board meetings and then speak for them is annoying. CB is exactly right -- this money was money that needed to be used for certain funding areas and could not be used for academics.

Why would the playground at carrolton be updated by the school district as opposed to that at other elementary schools which are at least as out of date and have safety concerns? Other PTOs are fundraising for this to be done.

The idea of removing the Franklin portion from Oak Creek Franklin Joint School District certainly has been discussed. As part of the Facilities commmittee that met for nearly a year and a half we decided that was not a fiscally responsible choice for our community. The majority of the land that is in Franklin's portion of our school district is commercial and not residential. This means that the amount of property taxes that we receive from this land far outweighs the number of residents that are being served by our district.

I too, applaud the board on what was a very difficult decision at a critical time in our community. I feel that Oak Creek has made it quite clear that our identity is the Knights and that another high school would not be an option. The land swap option gives us room to grow in both the high school and elementary schools - both will be needed in the not so distant future and with this option the referendums that will be needed will be much smaller amounts than if the school board had kept the land on Oakwood and we had to start from scratch on that land. The school board may not have made the most popular decision amongst those who have not been part of the process and do not know all of the facts, but it was the right decision for the children of Oak Creek. Thank you for your dedication!
