Child OK After Car-Bicycle Collision Near East Middle School

A child was evaluated and released on scene following the accident about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A boy on a bicycle escaped major injury after a collision with a vehicle at Ryan Road and Shepard Avenue—near East Middle School—about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Two witnesses told Patch the boy crossed Ryan Road at a red light and was not seen by the driver. The accident threw the boy from the bicycle, but he averted serious injury because the collision occurred on the side of the car and not head-on, according to the witnesses.

"It was more he ran into the van vs. the van hitting him," said one witness, who added the boy was wearing a helmet.

The child was evaluated and released at the scene, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News.

The driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with police, the station reported.

Police officials could not be immediately reached for further comment Tuesday morning.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
