6th Street To Extend Through Drexel Town Square

6th Street will go through Woodman's property to connect Drexel and Forest Hill avenues.

The Oak Creek Common Council has approved a memorandum of understanding with Woodman's that will allow the city to extend 6th Street through the Drexel Town Square project to W. Forest Hill Avenue.

6th Street will go through some land off Forest Hill Avenue that Woodman's currently owns and uses for storm water management. Under the MOU, the city will maintain the storm water detention pond and manage storm water runoff generated by Woodman's.

The MOU also says the city and Woodman's will work with the state Department of Transportation on a new signalized intersection on Howell Avenue between the grocery store and Drexel Avenue.

The Drexel Town Square project, which will include a mix of shops, restaurants, apartments, office space, public space, a new city hall and library and a Meijer store, will be developed just north of Woodman's near Drexel and Howell avenues.

Crews have been preparing the site for development throughout the summer. Officials expect business announcements later this year and to break ground on the city hall/library building in 2014
