Crews Clearing Land For New Fire Station

Construction on the new station, across from the post office, could begin this fall.

Work to clear some of the woods on E. Centennial Drive, where a new Oak Creek fire station will be built, began this week.

City officials have said about an acre-and-a-half of wooded area at 255 E. Centennial Drive, across from the post office, will be removed. About 12 acres will be left undisturbed.

Construction on the new fire station could begin in August or September. Plans call for a two-story building about the same square footage as the department headquarters at 7000 S. 6th St.

The station is one of two new municipal structures Oak Creek is planning. A joint city hall-library building will be constructed as part of the Drexel Town Square development project near the corner of Drexel and Howell avenues.

Work has also picked up on that site in recent days, with crews removing concrete that will be re-used within the development.
