Revealed: Community Center Summer Concert Series Lineup

The Oak Creek Community Center is celebrating its 10th year of providing free live music in its summer concert series.

Last month, the Oak Creek Community Center asked Patch to help solicit public input on bands that should be included in the 10th anniversary of the summer concert series.

Hoo boy, did readers ever respond. More than 115 comments—and counting—have been posted to that story. And that doesn't include the numerous emails I've received or comments on the Oak Creek Patch Facebook page.

The community center was impressed by the feedback and, based on that input, tried to get Oak Creek resident Eric Diamond and the Ultimate Legends Band to perform this summer. Unfortunately, the group was not available because of prior commitments, Community Center Director Rich Duchniak said.

Also unfortunately, for yours truly, Pearl Jam did not make the cut. I thought Oak Creek would have been a great warm-up show before their July 19 Wrigley Field concert, but I guess it just didn't work out.

Here are the bands who will be gracing the stage this summer, with a brief bio provided by the community center:

  • June 26: Eddie Butts Band. With a delicious blend of jazz, pop and R&B, the Eddie Butts Band has been a Milwaukee and Wisconsin favorite for years.
  • July 10: Pat McCurdy. A Milwaukee musical legend and summer concert series favorite, Pat has been entertaining crowds with his comical lyrics and wacky stage antics for more than 25 years.
  • July 24: Doo-Wop Daddies. The Daddies deliver an exciting theatrical show that remains faithful to the Doo-Wop style. They don't merely recreate the music of the 50s and 60s—they've redefined it.
  • Aug. 21: Southern Tradition. Whether covering new or classic country, southern or classic rock, Southern Tradition always brings a good time. (Bonus points for being an Oak Creek-based band and friend of Patch)
  • Aug. 28: Mt. Olive. Bringing new band members, new songs and new direction to Oak Creek, Mt. Olive's playlist includes 50 of today's hottest dance tunes, in addition to classic rock favorites.

The concerts are held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the grounds of the community center, 8580 S. Howell Ave. As always, attendees can bring their own food and beverages or purchase them at the center. You should also bring lawn chairs and bug spray.

New this year are free orange cream custard floats for the first 250 people at each show. The floats are courtesy of Black Bear Bottling Group and Culver's.
